IDP: MDRF Donates Relief Materials and Cash to Displaced Persons in Kontagora, Gwada, in Niger State

The high rate of insecurity caused by the activities of terrorist groups in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasised. This has led to the increase in the number of people at the various Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Nigeria. Every year, billions of naira are set aside by the various level of governments to take care of displaced persons at the camps. Also, several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have stepped in to assist the government in this direction to alleviate the sufferings of the people there.

This was why the Board and Management of Michael Dato Relief Foundation (MDRF) recently approved the sum of N300,000 (three hundred thousand naira) to support the IDPs. First port of call was the IDP camp in Kontagora, Niger state where the sum of N100,000 cash was donated. The MDRF President donated the money on behalf of the Foundation through the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora, His Lordship, Bishop Dauwa Yohanna.

Next was the IDP camp at Gwada also in Niger State where the Foundation donated relief materials (food items) worth over N200,000. The relief items were received on behalf of the Gwada IDP camp by the Auxiliary Catholic Bishop of Minna, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Gopep. He thanked the Foundation for coming to the aid of the displaced persons at a crucial time when they most needed the support. Fr. Gopep noted that the Catholic Diocese of Minna has done a lot to sustain the displaced persons at the Gwada camp especially after they were abandoned by the aut’[horities. Fr. Gopep who is also a member of the board of Michael Dato Relief Foundation prayed for the financiers of the Foundation for God’s blessings and protection.
